...But wait, who is Carl?
Our Story of Carl’s Campsites
As a boy, Steve would camp with his beloved stepfather Carl Flinchum, learning how to hunt and fish, and love the land on which Carl was born and raised. Steve was a Boy Scout growing up, and eventually ascended to the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. He was able to really hone in his abilities while spending years working in construction, and found that he had a real love for it. In 1991, Steve built his parents a beautiful A-Frame house, as well as his own hunting cabin by the river. Steve cared for his parents until they both passed away in 2020. For over 30 years, Steve has loved and taken care of this land, making it his home and carrying on Carl’s legacy, and love for nature.
When Steve met and became friends with Laura after his dad's death, they joined forces to renovate his parents' home and build an AirBnb. They began camping down by the river together with their dogs as often as they could. Enjoying campfires and the beauty of the riverside, they began to imagine a way to honor Carl's legacy by sharing the land with other like-minded folks looking for a quiet, peaceful place to enjoy. Carl's Campsites was brought to fruition in Spring 2023.
Steve enjoys caring for his property, camping by the river, building and working with his hands, watching westerns, and cooking and feeding people. He enjoys telling stories to folks in his animated manner in which only Steve can.
Laura enjoys painting and renovating, working on old furniture, hiking, camping, fishing, and digging in the dirt. She helps Steve with the management of the Campsite and their AirBnb. She also painted the signage of Carl along the road pointing the way to camp!
Laura and Steve reside about ¼ mile walk from the campsites down Flinchum Lane, with Leo the shih-tzu, Murphy the shih-poo, George the standard poodle, Daisy the rescue mutt, and Sophie the yorkiepoo. Sophie is the self-appointed Mayor of Carl’s Campsites.
